Description
The Stochastic EvEnt Sets At Worldwide Scale (SEESAWS) project started in 2024 with the aim of creating a global dataset of ruptures from the GEM Hazard Mosaic that could be used in hazard and risk calculations to generate ground motion fields (GMFs) at a global scale. A significant effort has been devoted to ensuring that the ruptures derived from the hazard models included in the GEM Mosaic were consistent with our understanding of regional tectonics, to eliminating abrupt transitions at the borders between models, and to producing a consistent orientation of ruptures across Mosaic model boundaries. This has led to a Global Stochastic Catalogue representing 100,000 years of seismicity based on the 2026 GEM Hazard Mosaic and including all ruptures with magnitudes M ≥ 5.
