Marco is an Exposure Analyst at the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) Foundation in Pavia, Italy. At GEM, Marco focuses on improving the spatial resolution of exposure models, collecting data on residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, and enhancing exposure models for multi-hazard risk analysis. Before joining GEM, Marco was a Lecturer in Structural Engineering at the University of Southampton (UK), where he continues to hold a Visiting Academic status. Prior to that, he was a Research Fellow in Earthquake and Tsunami Engineering at University College London (UK). Over the past seven years, he participated in several research projects in earthquake- and tsunami-prone countries, including Indonesia, Chile, Sri Lanka and the USA. These projects were developed in collaboration with local universities, governmental institutions, reinsurance companies and multilateral agencies. Marco earned his PhD in Civil Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh (UK), in 2017. In 2022-23 he was the Chair of the Young Members subcommittee of the UK Society for Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics.
