Karim Aljawhari
Karim is a Physical Vulnerability Modeller and analyst at the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) Foundation in Pavia, Italy. At GEM, Karim develops advanced fragility and vulnerability models, characterising the various economic, environmental, and social impacts of natural hazards on the built environment, with a focus on earthquakes. His work also includes designing and deciding on rehabilitation strategies for vulnerable buildings. Before joining GEM, Karim was a Research Fellow in Risk and Resilience Engineering at University College London (UK), working on the Tomorrow’s Cities Project. Throughout his academic journey, Karim has contributed to several research projects in earthquake-prone countries, including Indonesia, Nepal, and Palestine. Karim earned his PhD in Earthquake Engineering at the University of Pavia - Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori (IUSS), Italy. He acquired an MSc in Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management from the University College London in 2018 and a BSc in Civil Engineering from An-Najah National University, Palestine, in 2015.
