Catarina Costa
Catarina is an Infrastructure Risk Specialist at the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) Foundation in Pavia, Italy. Since 2014, she has been engaged in research concerning the seismic risk assessment of infrastructures. Concurrently, she develops and validates earthquake exposure and risk models for the Global Risk Model (GRM), particularly focusing on Mongolia and the Pacific and Central Asia regions. Collaborating closely with partners in the reinsurance industry, she has contributed to integrating GEM models into catastrophe modeling platforms like OASIS and Touchstone. Catarina has also collaborated on risk assessment and mitigation projects with institutions such as UNDRR, the World Bank, ARUP, and the Asian Development Bank. She graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto in 2006, obtained an MSc in Risk and Emergency Management in 2015, and earned her Ph.D. in Understanding and Managing Extremes in 2019 from the University School for Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia.
