In order to work with OATS, you need to use an SSH-client.
If you don't use one already...
- for those working with a Windows operating system, we suggest Putty.
- Linux and Mac OSX users can use the Terminal which is included in all versions of Mac OSX (in the Utlities folder) and in Linux distributions.
Windows users that decide to work with Putty; the settings should look something like this:
NOTE when you enter your password in Putty you must type it out; you cannot copy and paste.
Within your SSH client, access your OATS account by typing the following text. Then type the password you received from us:
You will asked to provide a password of your choice:
Changing password for username
(current) UNIX password:
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully
You can change your password anytime with:
Accessing the server
You need an FTP client to access GEM's server. You can use any FTP client that supports SFTP. We recommend Filezilla.
The Filezilla connection configuration, should look similar to this:
Upload Input Files
Once you are connected to the OATS server, you can upload input files by navigating to the remote site. For example: '/home/YOURACCOUNT/YOURWORKINGDIR/'
Download Output Files
You can download completed results the same way; by navigating to the remote site. For example: '/home/YOURACCOUNT/YOURWORKINGDIR/computed_output'

Adding source models to your directory
Using the Terminal or Putty, change to your user account directory:
You can now run any of the OpenQuake demos that are supplied with your account in /home/<YourAccount>/demos. To do so, see the Running Calculations section.
You can also upload your own input models with Filezilla by adding sub-directories with meaningful names. Or you can add your input models directly within your terminal. In that case, be sure to first make a directory for your input models on the OATS server:
View available demo calculations
To view the demo calculations that are provided with an OATS account:

Each folder contains a set of demos:
Assuming you have a valid input model in the `/home/<YourAccount>/<demos>/` directory you may start a calculation by running a command like:
oq engine --rh=demos/hazard/SimpleFaultSourceClassicalPSHA/job.ini --exports=xml
You can view and download the calculation results in Filezilla by navigating to /home/<YourAccount>/<demos>/<CalculationName>/
You can also view them directly in the terminal:
