Scientific Participation

Scientists and (technical) experts in earthquake hazard issues, exposure, physical and social vulnerability, risk, impact and decision-making related to earthquakes are at the core of GEM development.

Follow progress, get reports, share your knowledge, and comment on the work of GEM-groups through Nexus
In order to support collaborative development of uniform and open databases, standards, (regional) models and tools, we have developed a platform for GEM collaborators, experts and practitioners in earthquake risk assessment to collaborate, share, discuss and suggest: GEM Nexus.

GEM Nexus ['a means of connection'] is home to the various groups working on GEM, who have access to a set of collaboration instruments. But Nexus is at the same time open to the wider community who can follow the groups, provide feedback on the work being carried out and connect with others that are making a difference in earthquake risk assessment. Now that OpenQuake can be readily used, the regions are buzzing with activity and the Global Component projects are producing their first deliverables, Nexus will serve as the linking pin and its contents will continue to expand.

Join the 300+ users and provide feedback on the GEM Glossary, list of selected events for the Consequences Database, the OpenQuake userguide and much more.

Try our applications
The hazard and risk engine powering the OpenGEM platform, OpenQuake, is being developed in the open. Check out the latest version, request a trial-account and provide us with feedback. Visit OpenQuake’s own website for more information.

Get involved in a Regional Programme near you
Independent initiatives/networks are (being) set up in various regions of the world, gathering regional experts to jointly develop hazard models, collect data and provide input on Global Components. Get in touch with a programme near you and see how you or your institution can link up with the work they are doing in the context of GEM. Check out the Regional Programmes page.

Feel free to contact info@globalquakemodel.org for more information on GEM related activities in the regions as well.
