Participate in GEM

GEM is a cooperative, public-private effort, structured as a partnership among a diverse group of companies, economies, institutions and organisations.

Started in 2009, GEM takes five years and at least €35 million to build its first working model. At present over two-thirds have already been secured from Public Participants, Private Participants and Regional Programmes.

Additional support is being sought from private industry, governments, public institutions, foundations and academia.

  • Economies, regions or cities (and/or corresponding representative public institutions) can adhere to GEM and become a Public Participant.
  • There are various possibilities to sponsor GEM and invest in the creation of the first global standard for earthquake risk assessment and its tools and applications.
  • International (governmental and non-governmental) organizations with a global mandate can become an Associate Participant and share their knowledge and network with GEM.
  • Organisations and individuals can get involved in (one of) the components that comprise GEM; Global Components, Regional Programmes, OpenGEM, etc.
  • All types of organisations, but also other initiatives related to disaster risk and individuals, can contribute to GEM to support the building of the first global earthquake model, or related activities such as dissemination of results and information.
  • GEM is a collaborative effort and would like to involve the community as much as possible. GEM therefore offers the possibility to provide feedback on the work that is being carried out and also allows for interaction.

There are numerous reasons and various ways to take part in the GEM initiative; more details can be found on the pages accessible from the left-hand-side menu.
