A major earthquake struck again, this time in South-America, under different circumstances and within a different context, with respect to Haiti, but equally with an impact on millions of individuals, on the economy and society at large. Following the statement we gave on the Haiti earthquake, we hereby would like to express our opinion about this terrible event. |
The event again brings out the conspicuous need for clear and reliable seismic risk information to be available, so that the general public and all sorts of stakeholders may become aware of the risk one is exposed to and react accordingly. That is exactly the type of information that GEM’s model will be providing, as will be demonstrated at the upcoming Outreach Meeting in June 2010, where a proof-of-concept will be presented.
