NewsSEIbrainstorm The brainstorm held 16 September at the OECD headquarters on the Social-Economic Impact (SEI) module of the global earthquake model brought together a diverse group of experts: economists, practioners, representatives of private companies and of international programmes / projects of the OECD and Worldbank. Subject of the brainstorm: the overall objectives of the SEI-module.

Discussions about what various end-users might need, direct and indirect loss, how to allow for cost/benefit analysis of mitigation actions and many more important topics took place.

The diversity of the group ensured that the module was observed from all possible angles and that both social and the economic aspects were taken into account.

Conclusion: the constructive discussions highlighted the need for further brainstorming and scoping. A small working group will now work on a roadmap for the Socio-Economic Impact module to be submitted to GEM’s Governing Board.
