Outreach & Communication

GEM’s Outreach and Communication strategy attempts to succesfully communicate the unique value that the GEM initiative offers to the world, by producing a state-of-the-art global earthquake model and accompanying tools and software for seismic risk assement, whereby contributing to reduction of earthquake risk around the globe.

The communication component is mostly aimed at dialoguing with the GEM stakeholders and the general public about recent developments and achievements of the GEM initiative. Activities comprise:

The outreach component comprises concrete activities, products and services for GEM’s stakeholders:

  • Outreach towards new stakeholders and possible participants, by means of dedicated presentations and articles, and organisation of meetings and workshops.
  • Outreach towards existing stakeholders and collaborators; the GEM Outreach Meetings are a good example of such activities. 
  • Announcements on new publications, calls for proposals or requests for public commenting.
  • Dissemination of GEM results in the form of technical reports to the scientific community and professionals.
  • Support of user needs assessments and development of the OpenGEM user-interface.
  • Development of workshops and training programmes supporting the use of GEM tools and software.
