Successful OpenQuake training for EMCA collaborators

Collaborators of the Earthquake Model for Central Asia (EMCA) programme, coming from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhzstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan followed a training in GEM's open-source calculation software (OpenQuake) at GFZ in Potsdam, Germany.

The gathering strengthened the basis for further harmonization of ongoing activities and existing datasets in the different countries. The course itself was informative and a good introduction to OpenQuake and its implemented algorithms in general as well as to its practical usage in particular, commented a participant. Most of the participants however hoped to be able to work with the software through a graphical interface soon. Nevertheless, first results were successfully produced and the participants were looking forward to further interactions in order to help to improve the software for application in the context of EMCA.
