Earthquakes are HUGE on Data.gov
After launching just over a year ago with only 47 data sets, the "Raw Data Catalog" catalog on Data.gov now has 2,326 entries that have been collectively downloaded almost three-quarters of a million times. Of course, even these sizable download counts understate the actual impact of this data, which is being embedded in a variety of sites and apps, like those being developed for the Health 2.0 Developer Challenge.

The big Data.gov winner so far? The Department of the Interior's Earthquakes are HUGE on Data.gov"Worldwide M1+ Earthquakes, Past 7 Days" data set.

(Reuters)—New issues of insurance catastrophe bonds should rapidly rebound to pre-financial-crisis highs as securities markets stabilize, insurance broker Aon Benfield said Monday.

Investors are showing sustained interest in so-called cat bonds, which enable insurance companies to transfer big risks, such as for hurricane or earthquake damage, to financial market investors, while their prices have also remained attractive for sponsors of the bonds, the broker said.

Under this title UN's International Strategy for Disaster Reduction is launching its new campaign, in order to get as many cities and local communities 'prepared' and more resilient for when natural disaster strikes. The campaign was launched this month in various cities around the world.
